NYPRA Points Series
How It Works
Throughout the season, NYPRA members earn points based on their finishes in select races. These points are tallied at the end of the year, and Points Champions are crowned at our annual banquet!
This series fosters a spirit of amateur competition at smaller events across New York. Kayak and Canoe points are counted separately, with champions awarded in different boat classes.
Eligibility
To qualify for the Points Series Championship, racers must:
✅ Be a NYPRA member
✅ Participate in at least 5 races
✅ If a racer competes in more than five, only their best five races are counted
Kayak Points System
Points are awarded separately for:
- Men’s & Women’s categories
- Under 50 & Over 50 divisions
- K2 (tandem kayak)
Point Breakdown:
🏆 1st place: 50 points
🥈 2nd place: 49 points
🥉 3rd place: 48 points
(And so on…)
If a race includes more age categories, they are combined into these divisions:
- Men’s Open (Unlimited) Under 50 & Over 50
- Women’s Open (Unlimited) Under 50 & Over 50
- Men’s Sport (Touring) Under 50 & Over 50
- Women’s Sport (Touring) Under 50 & Over 50
🔹 K2 Scoring: Each paddler in a K2 race receives the same points.
🔹 No point combination between Open and Sport categories—each racer accumulates points separately.
🔹 K2 points can be added to either Open or Sport, but not split further due to limited K2 participation.
Canoe Points System
Canoe points are awarded separately for:
- Amateur & Stock categories (no combining points across classes)
- Men’s, Women’s & Mixed divisions
- Under 50 & Over 50 divisions
🔸 If a race includes more age categories, they are combined into these two age groups for NYPRA points.
🔸 C2 & C4 Canoe Racing: Each paddler earns full points.
- Example: In C4, a 2nd place finish means each paddler gets 49 points.
