Thanks for visiting my Cross for LifeFlight fundraising page!
14 years ago I was in a small plane that crashed into the ocean shortly after take off from Matinicus Island off the coast of Maine. Fortunately all four of us aboard survived. Many came together to aid and rescue us, including LifeFlight of Maine. Both LifeFlight helicopters (there were two at the time) were deployed, one of which transported me. I later learned that my injuries were life-threatening, and without my LifeFlight transport, I likely would have died.
For the 11th year, my husband Matthew Russ and I will be participating in LifeFlight’s summer fundraiser, the Cross for LifeFlight. This fundraising event is a self-directed outdoor challenge that can be completed anytime during the month of August. Matt and I are planning a 5K swim in Messalonskee Lake, which is near where we live. Matt will be the hearty swimmer and I will be his faithful guide in my kayak. This is our way of paying it forward to future patients whose lives and families will be touched by LifeFlight of Maine.
LifeFlight of Maine is a nonprofit organization and the state’s only emergency medical helicopter service. With three helicopters, an airplane and ground ambulances, LifeFlight brings ICU-level care directly to the patient. As Maine’s only air ambulance service, LifeFlight has served more than 40,000 patients, one life at a time, from every community and hospital in the state.
Please consider making a donation of any size to help LifeFlight continue their courageous and life-saving work. For every $50 you donate, we will enter your name in a drawing to win Matthew Russ’ painting, Camden Hills from Great Spruce Head Island #2, a 20" x 30" oil on canvas, valued at $5,000. The painting is shown below. Any donation is welcome! And remember! The more you donate, the better your chances are to win Matt’s painting, but whatever you choose, LifeFlight wins.
Thanks so much for supporting our efforts, and mostly, for supporting this critically important service.
With gratitude,
KC and Matt
