Your job is to direct the runners and walkers to follow the correct course and cheer them on as they go, while also ensuring the roads are secure and free of cars.
There are many turns on this course, so we need to make sure that we are directing the runners/walkers accordingly. Please review the attached map and ask the Parks & Recreation Staff any questions you may have during orientation.
Cars are highly discouraged to attempt to drive on the course and may only cross the course when it is completely clear. If a driver is attempting to cross the course, leave their driveway, or drive along the course, first stop the vehicle and attempt to flag down a Police Officer for assistance. If you do not see a Police Officer from your location, the driver must wait for you to call the police for assistance. Call the non-emergency Police number (847-673-2167) to ask for the assistance of the closest officer on the race course. Please call prepared to provide them with the an address or cross streets. Households along the course were notified by mail that this could take 10-15 minutes.
As a course marshal, it is essential that you wear a safety vest and stay at your
assigned position until the final runner/walker has passed. A Village staff member on a bike will ride the course at approximately 10:20am to let you know how many runners and walkers are still on the road. Please stay at your location until the last runner or walker passes. If it is after 10:30am and you have not seen a runner or walker for at least 15 minutes, you may leave.
