Description

The MYA Spring ES/MS Developmental Track & Field Program runs from March to May. The season consists of 4-5 regular season meets and 1 championship meet.  Events included are 100m hurdles(MS ONLY), 100m/200m,  1600m, 400m, 800m, and 4x400m races (run in that order) plus LJ, HJ, & SP. Also, during the 2nd and 4th meets, we will be running the 3200m for the MS division only at 9 am. Athletes may compete “unattached” with a school or club based team.  Volunteer coaches are needed to coach school based teams.  Coaches can include school PE teachers, parent coaches, or other volunteers at their Elementary School, Middle School or the community. In most cases, this ‘team’ is considered a school club, supported by the parents and PTSOs.  MYA will serve as your meet director and facilitator during the developmental season. We do not hold practices nor train athletes during this part of the season. If your school does not have a program and you would like one then we can get you started! Everyone is welcome, whether your school has a program or not, you are homeschooled, or just love to run!!

Athletes will be randomly assigned to heats of their entered events for the first Developmental season meet.  At subsequent meets, including the championship meet, athletes will be assigned to heats of each entered event  based on their previous times (seeded). We will find a competitive heat for each athlete, regardless of their ability or experience with the sport. Depending on the number of athletes per event, these races could be mixed (boys and girls) or single gender.

Eligibility

Open to all boys and girls of Middle school age (grades 6, 7, 8) or Elementary School Age (grades 3,4 and 5). We realize that certain school districts have different grade designations for Middle School and Elementary School but we will need to adhere to one standard. The program is open to all public, private schools and home schooled athletes.

Middle School athletes must compete in at least one regular season meet in order to be eligible for the championship meet. Home schooled and or individuals who do not have schools participating may compete as unattached, part of a school team closest to their normal public school zone or as part of a recognized home school cooperative.

The same applies to elementary school.

We are having 4-5 meets in March - May (Subject to change). These will be an abbreviated meet program for each meet (see below) for grades 3rd - 8th. The idea is to keep the length of each meet no longer than 4.5 hours (1:00 pm - 5:30 pm).

We will need volunteer help for each meet.
