COURSES
THE GRAVEYARD - 14 MILES
Test your limits on The Graveyard, Wrightsville Beach’s iconic 14-mile ocean course. Starting and ending just in front of the newly Trailborn Surf & Sound Hotel on the soundside, this race route leads paddlers through one of two inlets—Masonboro or Mason’s Inlet—depending on race-day conditions.
Each inlet offers its own challenges: shifting sandbars, unpredictable currents, and tidal flows that can make or break your rhythm. Mason’s Inlet, in particular, is known for its surf where many have huli'd entering and for constantly reshaping itself—no two years are the same.
Once you break through to the open Atlantic ocean, paddle alongside the shoreline in a section that can open up to be fast-paced downwind or flat water conditions.
But don’t get too comfortable—the return through the inlet often brings a punishing headwind and current. This final stretch is where grit matters. This is where strategy, endurance, and training come together. It’s where podiums are earned.
Depending on ocean conditions, the graveyard course can run clockwise or counter clockwise.
THE THREE ISLANDS - 9 MILES
Take on the Three Islands Course, a roughly 9-mile flatwater race through the beautiful waterways of Wrightsville Beach. Starting and finishing just in front of the newly opened Trailborn Surf & Sound Hotel, this course winds through North Carolina’s scenic Intracoastal Waterway, circling three local islands.
Designed for both speed and enjoyment, the course offers smooth, protected conditions with minimal swell—perfect for paddlers looking for a strategic, steady push. While less intense than our ocean course, the 3 Islands still demands focus, endurance, and teamwork.
