Description

For 2023 we are bringing a new and exciting addition to the fitness events on the Island. Alameda is known for its beautiful running trails and beaches, so we decided to add a Swim/Run to our list of events this year.

Location:

  • Crown Memorial Beach - Alameda Shoreline
  • 8th Street and Otis Drive
  • Gates for the Park will open at 5:00am - Free parking provided by East Bay Regional Parks

The race weekend consists of two events: a Swim and Run Aquathlon event where swimmers will swim out from the shoreline Kite Shack, around the buoys and back in, then they will transition into their running shoes and follow the 5k course out and back along the beautiful Shoreline trail. The Aquathlon will be followed by a SUP race of 1 Mile or 3 Mile. Since the event has been pushed to a fall date of Oct 7th, we are also adding a relay and stand alone swim event of .5 mile and 1 mile.

Course Details:

the stand up paddle will start at 9:30am and will take you a bit further out from the shoreline past Ballena Bay and back. The 1 & 3 Mile paddle will be a big triangular loop in the Alameda Bay. for more information and to register for the paddle visit: https://paddleguru.com/races/IslandAquathlonandSUPRace

The Aquathlon will have a beach start swim with groups no larger than 50 athletes. Actual wave breakdown will be determined closer to the event. Tentative start time is 8:00am, but is reliant on the tide schedule and we will monitor as we get close to race day. The 1/2 mile swim will be a triangular out and back, keeping the buoys on the swimmers right with approximately 100 years out, a 400yard cross (turn) and then another 250 back along the shore to the finish and the return will go with the tide, so a smooth swim back. There will be a transition area to change from swim to run gear, and the event will finish with a 5k run along shoreline drive.

This Aquathlon will max out at 300 participants for the first year. Don't wait to the last minute to register

Participants Receive:

  • Custom cotton blend t-shirt
    Custom Bib
    Finisher  Medals

Expo and Race Finish: At the conclusion of the event there will be Music, Beer provided by AIBC and donuts provided by Donut Petit.
