Our Jayla, now a Junior in High School has met her fair share of challenges since birth, She is our bright, brave, smart, courageous, and beautiful warrior who was born with Goldenhar Syndrome. This means she lives with craniofacial differences like facial asymmetry, microtia (a small or absent ear), and eye challenges like a coloboma. She also has hearing loss on one side — but let us tell you, she hears loud and clear with the help of her bone anchored hearing aid. ♦
Jayla has already been through multiple surgeries and have shown us just how resilient she is, and there are more ahead starting next year. But she’s not doing it alone. Dr. Rubenstein and his incredible team at Kaiser have been absolutely instrumental in her growth, healing, and confidence. We’re beyond grateful.♥
This year, Jayla is excited about the Chocolate Chase — not just for the chocolate (although... she LOVES it!), but because it's a chance to connect with others in the craniofacial community, celebrate the overwhelming love of family and friends, and give back by raising funds for Dr. Rubenstein and Faces of Tomorrow, a nonprofit doing amazing work for kids just like her.
Your support means the world — whether it’s a donation, showing up, or simply cheering us on. Let’s help make the future brighter for Jayla and so many others walking this courageous path.
The Chocolate Chase 5K is a new event that will be held in Sacramento, on Sunday May 18, 2025, to raise awareness and celebrate people and families living with a craniofacial difference. There is nothing else like it on the West Coast! Please help the Chocolate Chase 5K be successful in its first year by making a donation today. Thank you for your support!
With love and gratitude,
Team Jayla
