This year marks my 5th time participating in the Tunnel to Towers Run & Walk Series — and each year, it only deepens my commitment to this incredible cause.
The event honors the heroic life and sacrifice of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who, on September 11, 2001, strapped on 60 pounds of gear and ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers. Stephen gave his life that day saving others.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation continues his legacy by honoring all who lost their lives on 9/11 and by supporting first responders and military members who make extraordinary sacrifices every day. Their work is life-changing:
Building mortgage-free smart homes for our most catastrophically injured veterans and first responders.
Paying off mortgages for families of fallen police officers, firefighters, and military heroes who die in the line of duty or from 9/11-related illness, leaving behind young children. Providing essential support — from education to counseling — for those left navigating sudden, devastating loss.
The Foundation’s guiding words, “While we have time, LET US DO GOOD,” serve as a powerful reminder that we can all make a difference.
As a US ARMY Veteran and as the Granddaughter of a firefighter, I connect with this cause in a very personal way. Not only is it about honoring bravery, showing gratitude, and giving back to those who protect us, but every dollar raised helps provide security and stability for families facing unthinkable hardship.
