Cancer research is imperiled in 2025 across all realms. Research investigators have had to shutter their labs and see a lifetime of accumulated data, brought forth from decades of tireless work and selfless callings, lost.
At what cost, we must ask? The highest one..prevention, detection, treatment and cures for ourselves , our loved ones and future generations, those ongoing efforts and outcomes have been extinguished through loss of funding. The realization of the toll this takes is demoralizing, disturbing and downright depressing.
Perhaps , like myself , you owe your life to the dedicated individuals and science that led to your good outcome. Did a loved one perish for lack effective treatment measures for thier cancer? No doubt your hopes and prayers were for a time in the future when ongoing research would bless another enduring this same cancer with hope and a good outcome. That’s the dynamic nature of cancer research as we all came to know it. We trusted in the dedicated investigative work being done in the field of research. Every day that pipeline was bringing forth new and exciting and hopeful discoveries, treatments, early methods of detection and yes, even cures.
Miles for Moffitt showcases and supports their fledgling reasearch investigators, now immersed in the starting phases of their tireless work that holds the hope of the future in cancer prevention, detection, treatment and cures. Reliant on outside grant money to sustain their labs, technicians, assistants and suppliers, these indefatigable , 24/7 heroes have a hope in this most hallowed source of funding Miles for Moffitt can bring them. Folks, 100% of the money you donate goes to these budding research projects here at the world renowned H. Lee Moffitt Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Take heart , there IS something you can do and it could not matter more! Placed in all of your capable, generous and caring hands is the ability to further cancer research when everything we see, hear and read tells us it’s out of our hands. You’ve done it now six times before, my faithful , steadfast, now seven years and counting , supporters ! I’m setting a goal and it’s higher than I have ever set before , but I do that every year, and every year you all pull through above and beyond anything I could ask or imagine. Last year I reset my goal upwards five times and each time you met and exceeded that increase. You heroes brought this effort to a third place, overall earnings effort from 10,000 individual participant earners. In my 7 years you have put me on the leader board every time. If you see my goal is close or even attained , don’t let that stop you , I promise you I’ll increase it. Last year I almost doubled my initial goal. I have a great feeling that’s going to happen again in 2025.
In 2025 the outcome for this 20th annual Miles for Moffitt fund raiser has never mattered more. So give like there’s no tomorrow, because sadly, without alternative funding, for cancer research there will not be one.
